As I Lay Dying Post _ Mekhi Jones

For 2 months following my LA reunion, I traveled and stopped across the flyover states. Colorado was by far my favorite. Definitely the spike in drug usage for the trip because it's harder to find a Chick Fil A than to find a dispensary. I was hesitant to smoke again for the first time. I vividly remember the euphoric experiences after smoking in high school and closet, but with my older age, I began to move past it.
However, when I met up with some past co-workers in Denver I quickly succumb to the peer pressure. I was with Franky - ex Googler, Robby- entrepreneur turned professor, and Tyrone - motivational speaker. All three highly educated, highly motivated, and filthy rich guys. Who all decide to pick a week or two every year and randomly choose a city to basically party in.
We met up around 11:30pm on a Saturday, when we were supposed to meet at 10pm; CPT struggles. To start the night off, we wanted to hit up a dispensary. As they aren't hard to find, we ran across one pretty soon. Bought a few pre-rolls and made our way out. Smoking in the car with Robby on aux reminded me so much of college. -

We were so reckless than. Giving little thought to our actions and our futures. I guess that's the benefit of being young. Living young wild and free. There were nights where we ended up miles away from campus and decided to just sleep over at Berkeley or in the car somewhere. They were the best of times, and they were the worst of times. We became so infatuated with our surroundings and immediate friendships that we forget the out of sight relationships. We focused so much on what we are doing today that tomorrow and the people who would or wouldn't be here tomorrow, we were ignorant to. We forgot to call our family, our high school friends, and mentors.

Was this the result of the drug usage? I doubt it.

We made it to a club. Partied. Danced. It was a good time; except for Franky.

Franky wasn't too close with his mom growing up. He grew up with his father majority of the time because of the divorce when he was 8. His mom called him while we were in the club. Mind you, Franky is very high and this club is very loud. He picks up but can't hear anything so he hangs up. Then explains to us how he hates how she calls at inconvenient times.

On the ride home, Franky got a call from his dad.

"Your mom died." he said.
