Week 2

So after waking up in that fine train cabin we were almost in LA and Jack was already up, smoking and drinking a little of the whiskey he snuck in wrapped in his dirty wool shirt that stank of other drinks snuck in and spilled in other places, other times. We got off the train in LA and Jack went out drinking with Neal and he knows I couldn't stand Neal so I just stayed behind, but after a bit I headed out and goddammit I didn't want my trip to end in my staying in while Jack would get drunk and I'd have to take care of his hangover the next day, and besides, Jack was always screwing around with other girls too so I went back to the hotel room, packed my bags, and left. We said we were "married" but truly there were no documents and I'd only known him for a few months, so there was no paperwork to be done except in my mind, and soon we were right and proper divorced in my soul. I left him a note telling him this, and with enough money to buy a bus fare I took the first bus heading anywhere and breathed the fresh clean air of independence.
